Curriculum Vitae

Stefanos Gerardis was born in 1982 in Thessaloniki. He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Western Macedonia, Greece. Prior to that, he worked as an R&D Engineer at Sandvik Coromant (in Sheffield UK), spearheading projects worth several hundred k€, developing state of the art products for the aerospace sector. He has obtained a Diploma (five-year degree) in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Experimental and analytical determination of PVD films’ mechanical properties and their effect on wear of coated cutting tools from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Furthermore, he has worked as a Post Doc researcher in Institute Laue-Langevin (ILL) (Grenoble, France) with main focus the technological, scientifically and economical evaluation of new metallic neutron guides. In that frame he had designed and constructed several neutron guides prototypes, using new substrate materials. His work has been published in a variety of journals, including Surface and Coatings Technology, Optical Engineering, Annals of the CIRP, Material Science & Engineering Technology. His main research interests are in the area of Manufacturing technology and cutting performance optimization.
