Relationship Georgios I. Skodras is Professor of “New and Clean Technologies for Energy Exploitation of Coals and Non-conventional Fuels” at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Western Macedonia.
Curriculum Vitae

He received his diploma and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). He carried out research as senior scientist at the (1) Aristotle University of Thessaloniki / Chemical Process Engineering lab (CPEL), (2) CERTH / Chemical Process Engineering Research Institute / Energy and Environmental Processes lab (EEPL) and (c) CERTH / Institute for Solid Fuels Technology and Applications in the areas of coal-biomass combustion /gasification, clean technologies for energy generation from coal, biomass and non-conventional fuels, CO2 separation, capture and storage, emissions minimization of trace pollutants (PCDD/F, PCB, Hg, heavy metals, particulates), activated carbons for environmental purposes, membrane technology for hydrogen separation and environmentally sound utilization of combustion by-products (fly ash exploitation). In 1988 he joined the Chemical Process Engineering lab (CPEL) at AUTh and Energy and Environmental Processes lab (EEPL) at CERTH/CPERI. In parallel to the above, he was involved as senior researcher in the Institute for Solid Fuels Technology and Applications at CERTH. In 2004 he was appointed as member of the board of EGNATIA ODOS SA and in 2005 he was appointed as C.E.O. and Chairman of the board of the Thessaloniki Drinking Water and Sewerage Co SA (EYATH SA) and, in parallel to that, he was also appointed as C.E.O. of EYATH SERVICES SA in 2007. He resigned in 2009 and he returned back at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki / Chemical Process Engineering lab. Since September 2010 he has been Ass. Professor and since 2014 he is Associate Professor of “New and Clean Technologies for Energy Exploitation of Coals and Non-conventional Fuels” at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Western Macedonia in Kozani, Greece. In 2014 he was appointed as C.E.O. and Chairman of the board of the EGNATIA ODOS SA, position from which he resigned in 2015 to return back at the University of Western Macedonia.

His research interests include advanced hydrogen and carbon dioxide technologies in coal upgrading processes, CO2 conversion to methanol, hydrogen generation, separation and storage, CO2 separation, capture and storage hybrid catalytic membrane reactors and modified activated carbons. Georgios Skodras and his co-workers have more than 160 publications in peered journals, peered conference proceedings and proceedings, has received more than 1100 citations and his h-index is 19. He participates or has participated as scientific co-ordinator and senior researcher in 39 research projects funded by the European Commission. Georgios Skodras has conducted 131 engineering studies for industries, enterprises and municipalities. He has organized more than 60 training courses. He is member of the Greek Technical Chamber, the Hellenic Association of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy, the Word Society for Sustainable Energy and the American Association for Science and Technology.
