Research

The main research interests of Kyriakos Vafiadis are related to applied aerodynamics, computational fluid dynamics and its applications in engineering, the aerodynamic design of aircraft, wind turbines and other aerodynamic bodies. His general research interests include the analysis of energy systems and the investigation of alternative solutions to issues related to energy and climate.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Kyriakos Vafiadis graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Western Macedonia in 2009. Since 2010, he worked as a Mechanical Engineer and at the same time he was a PhD candidate at the University of Western Macedonia under the supervision of Professor Antonios Tourlidakis. The subject of his Dissertation was “Aerodynamic design, analysis and optimization of wind turbine operation”. In 2016 he received his PhD and since 2017 he has taught a series of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He has supervised several Diploma and Master’s Theses. He was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Western Macedonia on “Aerodynamic design, computational analysis and experimental evaluation of small wind turbines” and has been involved in various research projects related to energy issues. In 2024 he was elected as a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on “Aerodynamics”.
