The Department aims at fostering and promoting education, scientific research and knowledge relevant to the object of contemporary Mechanical Engineering, by focusing on energy-related issues, such as:
- energy technology (production, conversion, transfer, storage and use of conventional and renewable energy sources)
- management of energy resources in terms of institutional, organizational and financial effects at a local, national and international level
- environmental impact of energy (local, national, global)
- design and maintenance of engines and automatic control systems
- testing and manufacture of products and systems
- management of production systems and business administration
The specific Department objectives include the following:
- qualifying students to acquire thorough grounding in the basic principles of Mechanical Engineering

- catering for outstanding education, which will allow students to meet industry and societal needs
- developing high quality teaching and assessment methods in all taught subjects

After a five-year course, ME students will be able to:
- apply acquired knowledge to engage in various Engineering projects
- employ modern methods and techniques across the range of technologies over their core competence

- achieve effective oral and written communication, and develop team spirit
- design, undertake and run a wide variety of projects
