Call for applications: Boysen- TU Dresden -Summer School 2021
The Technische Universität of Dresden and the Boysen Research Training Group warmly invite Master students, PhD students and young professionals to take part in the 1st Mobility in Transition Summer School. It is an academic space to discuss possible development paths for future mobility in an interdisciplinary setup.
The summer school will take place online and 100 percent free of charge on 20th to 21st of July 2021. Applications are now open.

Mechanical Engineering, which is the oldest and broadest discipline in Engineering, emerging during the industrial revolution in Europe in the 18th century, dates back to thousands of years, probably when humans had made the first cutting tools from stone. It is a continuously evolving discipline, associated with major technological advances. Nowadays, Mechanical Engineers are involved in substantial cutting-edge engineering achievements, such as composite materials, mechatronics, and nanotechnology.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers Master’s degree programmes in specialized discipline-related subjects, with a view to catering for in-depth education to the new generation of Engineers. In addition, it aspires to enhance graduates’ competitive potential in the context of a dynamically evolving labour market, which is focused on integrating technological breakthroughs (i.e. advanced materials, computational methods and IT skyrocketing growth), in the light both of the growing people’s demands and global problems and challenges.
The Master’s degree programmes include:
– MSc in Advanced Engineering of Energy Systems
– MSc in Welding Engineering and Non Destructive Inspection
– MSc in Renewable Energy Sources & Energy Management in Buildings
– MSc in Biomedical Engineering
Two first prizes for the Tyφoon team of the University of Western Macedonia in Spain
Tyφoon MotoRacing, the team of Mechanical Engineering students of the University of Western Macedonia, swept awards and first prizes at the MotoStudent V International Competition in Aragon, Spain, where they represented Greece. In competition with teams from major universities around the world, Typhoon won two of the four prizes in the category Petrol. In particular, MS1 won the “Best Design” and the “Best Technological Innovation” awards. Our team also excelled in MS2 racing, taking the first place in acceleration and mechanical testing. In the categories maximum speed, brake test and gymkhana the team ranked 5th, 6th, and 11th respectively, whereas in pole position they ranked 15th (due to fuel problems) and 12th in the final race. MS1 and MS2 mean rankings placed our team in the 7th position in the general category Petrol, only 16 points behind the team in the 3rd position in a head-to-head competition between participating teams.
