Prof. Yiannis Bakouros is Professor at the University of Western Macedonia, and President of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where he began his academic career in 2003. He graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as a Chemical Engineer, in 1981 and took his PhD in the field of Technological Management in 1988 from the University of Bradford, UK. He worked as production and sales manager in industrial, commercial and consultancy enterprises. He also served as a member of the board of directors and as technical advisor to big textile manufacturing companies. He was director in the development of Thessaloniki Technology Park (TTP) and the establishment of its Training Centre, with emphasis to the education of engineers in methodologies and mechanisms for transfer of technology. He heavily contributed to the creation of European and Greek technological networks, to the promotion of innovation and diffusion of technology in the area of SE Europe. He was the first representative of TTP in the Greek Innovation Relay Center, to which he was one of the founders. He also served as a chairman in the 32 European National Coordinators of EYREKA initiative, during the Greek Presidency. He was visitor professor at the Industrial Administration Sector, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and assistant professor at University of Thessaly. He has long experience in the growth of innovation management tools, business support, entrepreneurship and promotion of innovation, through the execution of a long series of Research and Development Projects as a Coordinator or Researcher. These projects were drawn and executed in Greece, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Balkans, mainly focused on his main research activities, Management of Technology, Regional Growth, Clusters, Regional Strategies of Innovation, National Innovation Policies, Development of Science and Technology Parks, Innovation Poles, Networks of Management of Information, Reliability, Maintenance, Industrial Safety. He also was head manager and coordinator of projects such as Regional Innovation Strategies, Regional Innovation Strategies Plus and Innovative Actions of Thessaly. He has published a great number of articles and a number of books in all the above mentioned fields. His latest books with the titles: “Innovation and Entrepreneurship, from Theory to Practice” and «Reliability and Maintenance of Technological Systems» were published in 2010. [ Full CV ] |
