A significant advantage of the Department is its strong teaching and research focus on Energy and the Environment which currently form a dominant research tendency and growth direction at international level with rapidly increasing employment opportunities. Strong collaboration has been established with the Public Power Corporation of Greece which sponsors two Chairs of the Department on energy related subjects and this consists a unique and pioneering feature among other Greek Universities.
Beyond the classical educational process, the Department offers a large number of internships, interface with the local industry, international exchanges through the IAESTE and ERASMUS programmes and graduate studies at partner universities such as Cranfield University in the UK.
Currently a significant investment takes place in the Department for the development of research and teaching laboratories and infrastructure facilities. A great deal of effort is focused on the integration of the equipment and experimental devices in the educational process in order to better support and facilitate the various taught modules and project work.
The facilities of the Department are located in the historical town of Kozani which is the capital of Western Macedonia and the heart of Electricity production of Greece. Kozani and the surrounding areas offer many sight seeing attractions and plenty of amenities for good quality of student life.
