Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Douvartzides L. Savvas was born in 1973 in Kozani-Greece. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Western Macedonia (UoWM). In 1997 he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer at the University of Thessalia, Volos-Greece, and in 2004 he acquired his Ph.D title from the same university working on the theoretical and experimental development of ethanol fuelled Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. During 2005-2006 he executed Post Doctoral Research in the University of Thessalia under the scholarship of the Greek State Scholarship Institute (IKY) and during 2006-2011 he was a visiting lecturer of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of the Western Macedonia University of Applied Sciences (WMUAS), Kozani-Greece. Since 2014 he is an Assistant Professor, initially in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of WMUAS and then in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the UoWM. He is an author of more than 30 research articles in peer reviewed international journals and he has presented his work in more than 30 international conferences. He has translated two books and he is a guest academic editor of a special research issue of the Energies  Journal. His research interests include the design and optimization of heat engines (internal combustion engines, steam turbines etc.) and thermal power plants, the production and utilization of alternative fuels, catalysis and electrochemistry, electrochemical power generation (fuel cells), renewable energy, and energy storage technologies. Since 2015 he is a lecturer of the MSc Program “Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Management in Buildings” of the UoWM. Finally, he is the faculty advisor of the student Perseus Racing Team of the UoWM supervising the design, optimization and construction of FSAE racing cars
